Disavow File Generator
Paste links or domains from Ahrefs, Semrush or Search Console and get a clean disavow.txt that Google accepts, with every invalid line flagged.
- Free, no signup
- Results in seconds
- Works on any website
Most sites never need a disavow file. Google already ignores most spammy links, so use one for a manual action in Search Console, or for paid or scheme links you can't get removed.
One per line. A full URL disavows one linking page; domain:example.com disavows a whole site. Lines starting with # stay as comments. Ahrefs, Semrush and Search Console exports are read automatically.
spam.com becomes domain:spam.com, which is how most link exports list domains.
Turns every URL into a domain: entry for its site. Use it for link farms and spam networks.
Helps you remember when and why the file was made.
Paste your list or upload an export to build disavow.txt. Every line gets checked, and anything Google would reject is explained.
When a disavow file helps, and when it doesn't
A disavow file asks Google to ignore specific links pointing at your site. Most sites never need one: Google says its systems already ignore most spammy, low-quality links, and random junk links from scraper sites happen to every website. It's a tool for a specific problem, not routine housekeeping.
- Use it for a manual action
- If the Manual actions report in Search Console shows unnatural links to your site, remove what you can, disavow the rest, then file a reconsideration request. This is the situation the disavow tool was built for.
- Or for links you know break the rules
- Paid links, link exchanges, private blog networks or an old agency's link scheme are worth disavowing even without a manual action, if you can't get them taken down.
- Don't disavow to explain a ranking drop
- Disavowing harmless or helpful links can remove value you were getting. Ranking drops are far more often about content, competitors or technical problems, so check those first.
- AI recommendations come from trust, not link cleanup
- ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews recommend businesses with clear, useful pages and genuine mentions around the web. A disavow file won't earn that, but it can clear the way after a spam problem.
How to use the Disavow File Generator
Paste links or upload an export
Paste URLs and domains, one per line, or upload a CSV from Ahrefs, Semrush or Search Console. The right column is detected, bare domains become domain: entries, and # comment lines are kept.
Review every flagged line
Invalid lines show the reason, duplicates are removed, and URLs already covered by a domain: entry are dropped. International domains are supported, and the file is checked against Google's 2 MB and 100,000-line limits.
Download disavow.txt
The file is plain UTF-8 text in Google's format. URLs are kept exactly as you pasted them, apart from trimmed spaces, so nothing you reviewed changes on the way out.
Upload it in Search Console
Open Google's disavow links tool, choose your property and upload the file. A new upload replaces the old one, so always upload your complete list.
The disavow file format, in one table
Google's format is simple, which is why small mistakes, like a missing https:// or a domain without domain: in front, quietly stop a line from working. Every line in your file should be one of these.
| What | Example | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| A single page | https://spam.example/best-links | Ignores links from that exact page only. |
| A whole site | domain:spam.example | Ignores links from every page on that domain. |
| A comment | # Paid links from 2023 campaign | Ignored by Google. Useful notes for you. |
| Encoding | UTF-8 or 7-bit ASCII, .txt | Other encodings or file types can be rejected. |
| Size limits | 2 MB and 100,000 lines | Comment and blank lines count toward the line limit. |
