Add it to your site

  1. Copy the HTML snippet above. It's the JSON-LD wrapped in a script tag.
  2. Paste it into the HTML of the page it describes. The head or the body both work; Google reads either.
  3. Put business details on your homepage or contact page, and product details on that product's page only.
  4. Keep it in the page's HTML rather than adding it through a tag manager. Many AI crawlers don't run JavaScript.

Why structured data matters for a small business

Structured data is a short block of code that states facts about a page in a format machines don't have to guess at: this is a bakery, this is its address, it opens at 7am, this kit costs $24 and is in stock. Google uses it to understand and display your pages, and AI assistants rely on the same clear, consistent facts when they describe or recommend a business.

Google reads your facts instead of guessing
Search engines read pages well, but an address tucked in a footer or a sale price next to a crossed-out one is easy to misread. Markup states each fact once, in a fixed format, so the hours, prices and stock Google shows match what you meant.
It unlocks richer search listings
Product markup can add price, availability and review stars to your listing and makes products eligible for merchant listings in Google Shopping. Event markup can put your class or tasting into event results. Richer listings tell shoppers what they need to know before they click.
AI engines need consistent facts to recommend you
When someone asks ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google's AI Mode for a bakery nearby or the best starter kit, the answer comes from pages the engine has read. Clear business details and matching profile links make it easier to connect your website, Google Business Profile and social accounts as one business. Markup doesn't guarantee a mention, but missing or contradictory details make one less likely.
Free, and done in minutes
You don't need a developer or a paid plugin. Fill in the details you already know, copy the code, paste it into your site and check it with Google's free Rich Results Test.

How to use the Schema Markup Generator

  1. Pick what the page is about

Choose Local business for your homepage or contact page, Product for a product page, and so on. The form starts with a clearly marked example so you can see a finished result; clear it to start fresh.

  2. Fill in the required fields first

Fields marked Required are what Google needs before it can use the markup. Recommended fields make it more complete. The checklist updates as you type and says exactly what's missing or wrong.

  3. Combine schemas for the same page

A homepage can describe your business and your website at once. Tick more types under Combine and the output merges them into one @graph block, so you only paste a single script.

  4. Paste it and test it

Copy the HTML snippet into the page's HTML, in the head or the body. Then run the live page through Google's Rich Results Test and fix anything it flags.

Which schema type to use, and what Google can show

Every type below is valid schema.org markup that search engines and AI assistants can read. Only some of them can change how your listing looks in Google. Markup makes a page eligible; Google decides whether to show the result.

Schema typeUse it onWhat it's forGoogle rich result
Local businessLocalBusinessHomepage or contact pageYour name, address, phone, hours and profiles, so Google and AI assistants describe your business correctly.Business details such as hours and address in Google Search. Your Google Business Profile still drives the map results.
ProductProductEach product pagePrice, stock, shipping and returns for a product page, the details Google shows in shopping results.Product snippets (price, stock, star ratings) and merchant listings in Google Search and the Shopping tab.
OrganizationOrganizationHomepage or About pageYour brand as a whole: name, logo and official profiles. Use it on your homepage or About page.Your logo and business details in Google Search and knowledge panels.
WebSiteWebSiteHomepage onlyTells Google the name to show for your site in search results. Add it to your homepage only.Your site name shown above your listing in Google Search.

FAQFAQPageA page with visible questions and answersQuestions and answers that are visible on the page, as clear pairs that search and AI engines can read.FAQ rich results only appear for well-known government and health websites. It still helps other engines read your answers.
Article / blog postArticleBlog posts and articlesHeadline, author, dates and image for a blog post or article. No special badge. It helps Google show the right headline, image and date for the article.
EventEventEach event or class pageClasses, workshops, tastings and shows, in person or online.Event listings in Google Search, with date, place and ticket details.
BreadcrumbsBreadcrumbListAny page below the homepageThe path from your homepage to this page, like Home › Shop › Bread.A breadcrumb path in place of the URL in desktop results. Google stopped showing breadcrumbs on mobile results in 2025.

Not included on purpose: HowTo markup, because Google retired HowTo rich results in 2023, and the SearchAction markup for the sitelinks search box, which Google has also retired. Job postings are left out because they rarely fit a small business website.

Questions about the Schema Markup Generator

Local business schema is structured data that tells search engines your business name, type, address, phone number, opening hours and map location. It uses the LocalBusiness type from schema.org, or a more specific type such as Bakery, Plumber or Dentist. Google can use it to show your hours and business details, and it helps AI assistants confirm facts about your business. Add it to your homepage or contact page and keep every detail identical to your Google Business Profile.

Generate the JSON-LD here, copy the HTML snippet and paste it into the HTML of the page it describes. It can go in the head or the body; Google reads both. On WordPress, use a header and footer code plugin or a Custom HTML block. On hosted builders such as Squarespace or Wix, use the custom code or code injection setting. Then test the live page with Google's Rich Results Test.

Start by checking what your theme already outputs, because many Shopify themes include basic Product markup. Run a product URL through Google's Rich Results Test, or view the page source and search for application/ld+json. To add or extend it, go to Online Store, Themes, Edit code and open your product template section. Use Liquid values such as {{ product.title | json }} so every product gets its own data, and avoid publishing two Product blocks with different prices. If you'd rather not edit code, the RankBull Shopify app adds product schema for you.

It helps indirectly. AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews build answers from pages they can read, and structured data gives them unambiguous facts: what you sell, what it costs, where you are and when you're open. No AI company promises to cite pages because they have schema, so treat it as one part of being easy to understand, alongside clear page content, consistent business listings and pages that answer your customers' questions.

Use Google's Rich Results Test to see which Google rich results a live URL or code snippet is eligible for, and any errors that block them. Use the Schema Markup Validator at validator.schema.org to check any schema.org type, including types Google doesn't show as rich results. After publishing, the rich result reports in Google Search Console show problems across your whole site.

Only if it's quick for you, and don't expect FAQ dropdowns in Google. Since 2023, Google shows FAQ rich results only for well-known, authoritative government and health websites. FAQPage markup is still valid, and clear question-and-answer pairs remain useful for readers and for AI engines that pull direct answers. Every question and answer you mark up must be visible on the page.

No. Google reads JSON-LD in either the head or the body, so paste it wherever your website builder lets you add code. What matters more is that the code is in the HTML your server sends, since many AI crawlers don't run JavaScript, and that it describes content people can actually see on that page.

Markup makes a page eligible for stars; it doesn't guarantee them. Google doesn't show stars for reviews a business publishes about itself in LocalBusiness or Organization markup, and ratings must be visible on the page. Product pages with genuine customer reviews are the most reliable way to earn review stars. Never mark up ratings you made up, because it can lead to a manual action from Google.

Structured data helps AI understand what you sell.

RankBull adds schema to every article it publishes and shows whether AI engines mention your business once they've read it.

Shopify stores: the RankBull app adds product schema and FAQ blocks without touching theme code.
